Rules for being a decent/likeable person

  1. Have a good handshake. Firm, but not too firm.
  2. Look people in the eye when you speak, but don’t start a staring contest.
  3. When playing games with little kids, let them win.
  4. Give people second chances, but don’t keep dismissing mistakes.
  5. Be romantic but not sappy.
  6. Don’t interrupt good conversation to read texts or answer calls.
  7. Be a good-natured loser and a humble winner.
  8. Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
  9. Call your grandparents, and not just during the holidays.
  10. Wave back when someone waves at you. Smile back when someone smiles at you.
  11. Know that if you occasionally break the above ten rules, that you can still be a decent person. No one’s perfect.

A friend once told me that all I eat is chocolate and cheese. I was both disturbed and amused to realize that he was right.
